About the Triangle Raging Grannies

We’re the Raging Grannies and we want you all to know
That war is not the way to peace, and we must all say NO!
We’ve seen it time and time again, war’s not the way to go.
We rage to end all war!

The Triangle Raging Grannies are delighted to be back in the Peace Booth this year, sharing our messages of peace to all who visit here. We are part of a global network of Raging Grannies who write our own lyrics to old familiar melodies, and then sing out whenever and wherever our message needs to be heard.

Today we sing for peace, for an end to militarism both at home and abroad, for a transition of our tax dollars from a war economy to one that uplifts and rebuilds, and for an end to the needless carnage that is war. We heed the lyrics of the popular 1960s anthem that asked: “War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!”

And we heed the words of the women peacemakers who have come before us: from Lysistrata to Malala Yousafza, and all those in between, including Col. Anne Wright, Dorothy Cotton, Dorothy Day, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Emma Goldman, Jane Addams, Jeannette Rankin, Kathy Kelly, Matilda Joslyn Gage, Medea Benjamin, Samantha Smith… and our own Raging Granny Ruth Zalph, recipient of this year’s NC Peace Action’s Peacemaker of the Year Award.

It is our belief that war is the greatest pandemic of our time and leaves no one unscathed. Not only does it take the lives of the military combatants and those caught in their crossfire or drone attacks,
but it warps the souls of those sent to fight, displaces milions from their homes, poisons the Earth with its chemicals and land mines, and represents, in the end, “the ultimate failure” of diplomacy and of imagination.

As Grandmothers, we have lived through the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnamese War, and all the countless wars since. They have changed nothing , but brought great suffering to all too many. “We rage to end all war!”
