Welcome and thanks for the gift of your time in the interest of peace. The Peace Booth is the most effective use of our time to bring the message of peace to the most people.
The Peace Booth is located in the Education Building, near the corner of Blue Ridge & Hillsborough Streets. If you enter at gate 12, the entrance between Buildings 2 and 3, and turn left into the first door; the Peace Booth will be down the aisle on the right. See you there! Find us!
The orientation and training sessions for all coordinators and volunteers will be Monday October 14 or Tuesday October 15 at 7:00pm – 8:30pm at Community United Church of Christ (CUCC) Raleigh (map), 814 Dixie Trail, Raleigh. Group Coordinators and Volunteers should attend the Orientation either Monday or Tuesday, but not both. We will meet in the large community hall (Fellowship Hall).
Because of the crowds, allow at least an hour to get to the fairgrounds. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time so you can acquaint yourself with the booth and relieve the previous shift on time. Remember there is a long walk from the free parking areas. Parking in private lots can cost $10.00-$20.00 if free areas are full.
The State Fair offers free shuttle buses. We recommend using the shuttle from Bandwidth Parking Dogwood Lot at 4501 Reedy Creek Road, Raleigh; the free State Fair shuttle from there drops off at Trinity Road at Gate 9, the closest to the Peace Booth of the two shuttle options. See the NC State Fair transportation web page.
Our message this year is Picture Peace. We have a wide variety of literature about peacemaking. Please encourage visitors to take the literature. The children’s activities include coloring sheets. We also have NC Peace Booth bookmarks to hand out (the bookmarks include the Peace Booth website address, www.ncpeacebooth.org). We also have pens, pencils and buttons for people who stop to talk.
We will have one petition this year. Visit Petitions to view/download or sign the petition. Anyone who can read and understand the petition can sign it, no matter their age or state of residency. The petition has background information stored under the table. You can hand these out if people want more information before or after they sign. Please read the petitions and the background information so you are familiar with their content and can answer questions about them.
The petition is on a clipboard with attached pens. Please keep the signed petitions on the clipboard. This often encourages others to sign. They are removed each day. Extra petitions are stored under the tables.
A Red Volunteer Instruction Book is under the petition stand. It contains additional detailed instructions, and blank paper. Please read this book and record any concerns or ideas. Please sign your name and phone number if you make a suggestion.
There are church statements on peace and other informative literature. Encourage visitors to explore the literature and take what they wish. If anyone requests a peace statement from their church and we don’t have it, give them a bookmark and give them a copy of the Faith Statements guidelines from the Red Book or refer them to the web site. Add their name and address on the mailing list sheet legibly.
We have Peace gift bags for children.
f you have questions ,first call your coordinator. If you cannot reach them you may text Patrick O’Neill at 984-810-2273 (text only) or call David Biesack 919-880-9301
Please ask your replacement to read the Red Volunteer Book. Please stick around long enough for the person to look over the material and ask any questions.
Again… Thank you for your work for peace this year!
