Petition to Reduce N.C. Veteran Homelessness<\/strong><\/p>\n

To Our Leaders in the General Assembly:<\/p>\n

This petition seeks to provide North Carolina homeless veterans with long-term, permanent housing or shelters in order to help veterans avoid crime\/recidivism, depression, substance abuse, and to provide counseling services to help them re-integrate into mainstream society.<\/p>\n

We, the undersigned, urge our leaders to act now to provide additional funding to expand veteran services, which are not meeting the needs of those who served but now find themselves in dire circumstances.<\/p>\n

Thank You Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler<\/strong><\/p>\n

We, the undersigned, would like to express our thanks to\u00a0N.C. Department of\u00a0Agriculture Commissioner Steve\u00a0Troxler for maintaining the ban on concealed weapons at the NC State Fair. Everyone should feel safe at our state fairgrounds. We hope that people will listen to Commissioner Steve\u00a0Troxler’s message to leave their guns in the car or at home so that everyone can have a safe time at the fair.<\/p>\n

Ban the Box<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those with criminal records are routinely required to check a box on local and state employment applications acknowledging their conviction. A past record often prevents the\u00a0applicant from being considered for a job prior to an interview. Those with criminal records should not continue to be punished after they have paid their debt to society.<\/p>\n

We support restoring opportunities for gainful employment and productive citizenship to North Carolinians\u00a0with criminal records. Accordingly, we call on Gov. Pat\u00a0McCrory and members of the North Carolina General Assembly to \u201cBan the Box,\u201d and establish fair hiring procedures that prevent the unnecessary exclusion of applicants with criminal records from public employment with local and state agencies.<\/p>\n
